Leadership And Development of our Youth in Sports (LADYS), Inc. is a federally recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit community service organization committed to empowering young girls ages 9-16 spiritually, academically, and athletically by developing educational and scholastic programs that increase young girls participation in sports and physical fitness.
 
Started in 1996 by Hall of Famer Darlene Beale Norris, LADYS, Inc. has created opportunities in sports for young girls to learn, compete and achieve. The mission of LADYS, Inc. is to "teach them all and make sure everyone learns them well", which serves as a background premise for success.  Our programs include:
  • Saturday Basketball School: a 10-week skill based program, designed to teach girls the fundamentals of basketball. During the 2 hour sessions, players are taught the fundamentals with simplicity and understanding. Each session is only on Saturdays and is hosted in the community during the fall.
  • Georgia Pearls Girls Basketball Club: Are basketball teams that participate in tournaments and leagues throughout Georgia and neighboring states all year.   There are competitive teams that participate in AAU and YBOA competition in the spring as well as Collegiate Exposure teams.   • Project P.A.S.S.: Preparing Athletes for Scholastic Success is a program to inform and assist aspiring future college athletes. The program includes SAT Prep Courses, Workshops on Recruit readiness, and College campus tours.

The Big Girls Academy is a position specific program designed to enhance the fundamental skills of female basketball players that predominately play the post position establishing a foundation that prepares them to excel in competition. The Big Girls Academy program is a program series consisting of one (1) and two (2) day clinics that will feature skills training, agility training, guest trainers and speakers, and basketball IQ enhancement. BGA is for Middle and High School Players.

LADYS, Inc. and the Jonesboro HS Girls Basketball Team hosted the WNBA Atlanta Dream for a Practice on Thursday, August 25, 2011. The Atlanta Dream players show us how a professional practice is conducted and those in attendance had an opportunity to interact with the players.

The students of Saturday Basketball School had an opportunity to be apart of the Atlanta Dream game experience.  They participated in the on court ball exchange as well as created a fan tunnel for the players at half time.  All players in attendance were part of the experience.
